Four Corners

Binding is not one of my favorite parts of the quilting process.  To make it “easier,” I bind the four corners of my quilt first.    I miter the corners and stitch down the folds.  My buddy, Mrs. Goodneedle, is the binding expert!  She glues her binding before she machine stitches it.  She will hand baste it and then hand stitch it to the back of her quilt.  She shared her method with me and it’s pretty wonderful.  The bound edges are straight and full and pretty!

So back to the four corners…I just wanted to share the remarkable quilting that my buddy, Ginabean did for me.  I think it is her best work ever!  Looking at that quilting as I stitched made it not so bad. 🙂

PS  If you decide to bind with Essex linen, you might want to cut your bindings about 1/4″ larger than you normally use.  It’s great stuff but it is a little bulky!

June Fat Stacks show and tell

Lots of eye candy at this meeting at The Little General.  We focused on quilts made from the Hexnmore ruler from Jaybird Quilts.  It’s such a great ruler with so many possibilities!

I apologize if your quilt isn’t pictured.  I need to pay more attention to the camera instead of the quilts!!

So much work goes into a quilt show and this one was extremely well done.  Congrats to Forsyth Piecers and Quilters!

Log Cabins

I had a log cabin class at Knit One Smock Too a couple of weeks ago.  It was pretty amazing.  I’m ready to make another one!

IMG_2625Sheila’s design.  See how she added the logs?  LOVE the center.

IMG_2624Linda used two fabrics for this baby quilt and it’s a great look!

IMG_2622This is Sandra’s version.  The green background is corduroy.  I know it was challenging to sew but I love how the nap looks when it is turned in the blocks.

Finally, we worked with Cathy’s blocks.  She wasn’t sure about how she wanted to set them so we played with them.  She THINKS she is going to use the last set; we’ll see at our next class!

Hand Quilting

IMG_2522

I have been teaching hand quilting this week.   Joyce wanted to learn because her husband bought her an actual frame!  That’s a first for me.  Look how great those last few stitches look; she’s a natural…and a leftie.  Very fun!

IMG_2528

Rhey wanted to learn big stitch.  Here are her first rows.  I knew she was a ringer and sure enough, she pulled this out of her bag…

IMG_2525

I found a #12 John James quilting needle and she tried out those big stitch tips.  Traditional hand quilting and big stitch use the same rocking motion technique; we just switched up the thread and needle.  Again, success!  Nice pieced points too.  🙂

Hooterville

hooterville finishedMy Hooterville top is finished!   The pattern is from Wendy Williams’ new book, Wild Blooms and Colorful Creatures.   It’s a great book, full of wonderful projects.  She lives and works in Australia and I’m liking just about everything the Australians are doing these days!  Karen Poetzinger dyed the wools for me and I’m going to teach it as a wool applique class at Knit One Smock Too beginning in April.  Hoping to hand quilt it this summer…
