A new Serendipity Sampler class…

We started a new Serendipity Sampler class at Village Fabric Shop a couple of weeks ago.  Here are some pictures of three finished Samplers.  They will be a huge help to the “new kids” as they plan their blocks.img_9346This one belongs to Joyce, the queen of fussy cutting.  She used a variety of Tula Pink’s fabrics.  She replaced the piano key border with two inner borders and a one-fabric outer border.  Beautiful.

img_9350img_9351img_9333This pastel beauty belongs to Beverly.  She used a variety of Heather Bailey fabrics.  Her teal berries and that dark pink fabric give this quilt continuity.  BTW, Ginabean Quilts custom quilted all of these.  Love.img_9334img_9335img_9336img_9337img_9339This is Beverly’s SECOND Serendipity Sampler.  She used lots of Amy Butler and pulled from her collection of beautiful brights.  It is a show stopper.

Here’s the one that started it all.  🙂  This belongs to me; I made it a long time ago.  My friend Sue, “reinterpreted it” in modern fabrics and we were off!  Thank you Sue!img_9355img_9354img_9353img_9352

Hope this helps my new students.  I’ll be posting their work soon.  No pressure!!!  HAHAHAHA

IMG_5014Last but certainly not least, Cheryl’s third block.  No berries yet but she has a plan.  🙂

IMG_5015All three blocks.

IMG_5017PERFECT bird legs.  Not easy.  Beautifully done Cheryl.

A new set of beginner applique Serendipity classes starts on May 3 at Village Fabric Shop.  Contact me for more info.

I have a great job.  🙂

Serendipity Sampler update

024Jane finished her Serendipity Sampler and brought it to share last Monday.  WOW!  It’s so pretty!  All tropical and warm and we just loved it.

026Char finished her center.  We decided we liked Jane’s border with Char’s quilt but Jane wouldn’t give it to her.  Char WAS new to freezer paper hand applique.  She is no longer a beginner!

023Here are four of the blocks from my weekend classes.  Same block; different fabrics.  Beautiful!

022Jennifer’s block.  She has made her berry fabric decision.  (left center)  We like them.  This block is VERY flat; I took a bad picture.

020Pat’s block.  LOVE THAT GRAY.  Pat is still working on berries…she decided on teal this week.

019Dee’s block.   Navy, gray and green.  Less is more.

018Bev’s bird block.  Crazy good.  Check out the fussy cutting.  We might need an intervention.

016And last but certainly not least, Alice’s block.  She thinks she might use orange berries; we think she might be right!  I love that sweet little yellow bird.  This is such a balanced block.  Love!

I forgot to take a picture of Cheryl’s second block; my bad.  She’s working with the white on gray.  It’s in the four block picture.  Wonderful!  I’ll share it next month.

I have two new Serendipity classes forming in early May.  Contact me if you are interested.  It’s sort of addictive…

Brand New Serendipity Sampler Blocks

016I started two new Serendipity Sampler classes last month and the blocks came back this weekend.  Check these out!  This block belongs to Cheryl.  She will add more leaves and berries.   It’s a great beginning!  Those white flowers are pretty wonderful.

005Here’s Pat’s block.  She bought teal berry fabric yesterday 🙂

Lynda Morris Serendipity SamplerThis is Lynda’s block.  She couldn’t be in class so she sent me this picture.  She calls it her Lilly quilt!

004Here’s Dee’s block.  I LOVE this.  She’s berry hunting.  We talked about not using lots of berries.  We shall see…

006Sue’s glowing Tula block!  She put a LOT of thought into fabric placement and it shows.  Beautiful workmanship.  She’s thinking maybe teal berries…

011Here’s Amy’s block 🙂   After a little prodding, she produced the “parts.”

017How great is this going to be??  She calls it her red, white and blue quilt.  I’m proud of her!  Keep an eye on this one.

013We all decided we loved Alice’s block.  She used those calm greens for her leaves and then had lots of fun with the stalks, stems and flowers.  Maybe orange berries?

012Rachel…ah, Rachel.  She was meant to be an appliquer!  Perfect points, beautiful stitching.  Check out the fussy cutting in the blue center stalks.  Yay!!

015Here’s Wanda’s block.  It’s so right!  She will use that red for all her berries and wait until next month!

014Finally, here’s Jennifer’s beautiful block.  I like it for lots of reasons.  She used Amy Butler’s fabrics and you all know how I feel about Amy Butler.  She TAUGHT HERSELF how to machine applique and she did a really good job.  Finally, she took my beginner quilt class some months back.  She has a great attitude and a pretty wonderful eye for color and it has been fun to watch her do anything she wants to do!

Most of these women have not appliqued before this class.  I am so proud of them!  We had a circle tutorial in the classes so they will be making Karen Kay Buckley’s perfect circles this month.   Stay tuned.

Monday Morning Serendipity

Our four-person Serendipity Sampler class met this morning at The Little General.  Paula wasn’t able to be with us but she promises to be back in action soon.  We missed her!

This Serendipity Sampler pattern comes from Kim Diehl’s book, Simple Comforts.

Here’s the show and tell from Month 5.  These appliquers have finished their four blocks and they are ready to work on the sashing.

099Char’s four blocks.  She is NO LONGER a beginner; she is doing a really good job.

100Here’s her latest block.  Great circles Char!!

101Jane’s four blocks.  This helped chase away those February blues!!

102

Her fourth block. Love the fussy cutting and those bright orange circles.

097Deb’s fabulous four blocks.

098She will add more berries to her final block.  We loved her “black star!”

Great job ladies!  You inspire me 🙂

Month 1 Serendipity Sampler

I have started teaching a new applique block of the month at The Little General.  The pattern is from Kim Diehl’s book Simple Comforts.  I have taught the traditional version for several years at Knit One Smock Too.   Sue Lauer took my class last year and made this beauty from modern fabrics and of course I fell in love with it.   The Little General hung it behind the shop counter, we worked up a class schedule and now I have some beautiful first month blocks to share with you.
